Between green hills, stunning landscapes and a centuries-old wine legacy, this route passes through Arruda dos Vinhos, Sobral de Monte Agraço and Torres Vedras – territories that combine tradition, innovation and hospitality in unique wine tourism experiences.

In this article we present the 1st section of the West Lisbon Wine Route, passing through the regions of Arruda dos Vinhos, Sobral de Monte Agraço and Torres Vedras.

A) Quinta das Murgas
The Quinta das Murgas is a family-owned wine estate located in Bucelas, approximately 25 kilometres from Lisbon. The estate has a long winemaking tradition, currently led by João França, who inherited his passion for wine from his grandfather, Sérgio Geraldes Barba. The estate is dedicated to the production of high-quality wines, highlighted by the Arinto and Esgana Cão varieties.

Quinta das Murgas offers various experiences such as wine tastings where visitors can take part in vertical wine tastings, tasting different vintages of Murgas DOC Bucelas, accompanied by regional tapas boards. Guided tours of the estate, either on foot, on horseback or in an off-road vehicle, allowing you to recognise the vineyards, the production processes and the various farm animals, as well as organising picnics in the countryside, where visitors can enjoy typical regional productsin a peaceful and natural setting.

B) Quinta do Boição
The Quinta do Boição Is a wine estate located in Bucelas approximately 25 kilometres from Lisbon. Acquired in 1983 by Caves Velhas, which later became part of the Enoport Wine Group, the estate is part of the Bucelas Demarcated Region, known as the “capital” of the Arinto grape variety. The property covers a total area of 45 hectares, of which 32.5 are dedicated to vineyards, with clay-limestone soils and altitudes between 87 and 180 metres.

Among the wine tourism experiences, Quinta do Boção offers guided tours where visitors can take part in visits to the vineyards, winery and historic Caves Velhas. Wine tastings paired with DOP artisan cheeses, providing a complete experience of regional flavours and enogastronomic events, harvest and pruning programmes, walking tours, music concerts, picnics and workshops at the wine academy.



In addition to the above activities, the property has a main house, the “Grandparents’ House”, with three bedrooms and a suite, as well as three private villas. All the accommodation has been recently refurbished and is equipped with TV, air conditioning/heating and free Wi-Fi. Guests can take advantage of shared spaces, such as the outdoor swimming pool, lair, tennis court and hiking areas.

C) Quinta de São Sebastião
The Quinta de São Sebastião is a wine estate located in Arruda dos Vinhos, approximately 35 kilometres, which takes around 30 to 40 minutes by car, depending on traffic and the route chosen. The most common route is via the A10 or the A9 (CREL), existing at Arruda dos Vinhos.

Dating back to the 18th century, Quinta de São Sebastião stands out for its Portuguese manor house and centuries-old chapel, associated with stories of pilgrimages and miracles dating back to 1755.
The combination of mild climatic factors, sunny slopes, a privileged geographical location, proximity to the sea and the protection of the mountains all contribute to the production of wines with a characteristic freshness and their own identity.
In terms of wine tourism, Quinta de São Sebastião offers experiences such as: Guided Tours and Tastings, including the winery and vineyards, followed by wine tastings harmonised with regional snacks. Wine Lunches, harmonising its wines with local cuisine. It also offers the experience of a Sunset Picnic, allowing visitors to enjoy the surrounding landscape while tasting the estate’s wines, as well as tours around the estate on foot, by jeep or on horseback, offering an immersion in the winemaking tradition.

D) Quinta Cerrado da Porta
The Quinta do Cerrado da Porta is a family business located in the municipality of Sobral de Monte Agraço, in the Lisbon Wine Region, approximately 40 kilometres from Lisbon.
Acquired in 1997 by the current owners, the quinta began its wine project in 2011, planting 14 hectares of vineyards and building a modern winery.

The quinta offers wine tourism experiences, including private guided tours led by the owner or the winemaker, who share the history of the estate and explain the production methods used. During the visit, participants can enjoy wine tastings accompanied by cheese, ham and dark chocolate. There is no indication of restaurant, wine bar or accommodation services on the estate.

E) Quinta da Folgorosa
The Quinta da Folgorosa is a historic wine estate located in the parish of Dois Portos, in the municipality of Torres Vedras, approximately 40 minutes by car from Lisbon.
Founded in 1711, the quinta has a long tradition of wine production. During the French Invasions at the beginning of the 19th century, the estate was the scene of significant military events. The Duke of Wellington, leader of the allied forces that fought Napoleon, visited the region and praised the white wines produced on the estate, considering them the best in the Lisbon region. In 1910, the quinta’s main house was remodelled by renowned architect Ernesto Korrodi, adding architectural value to the site.

In terms of wine tourism, Quinta da Folgorosa offers various experiences such as: guided tours and wine tastings with walks through the village of Folgorosa to the windmill, enjoying 360º panoramic views of the region. During the descent, there is the opportunity to walk among the vineyards and recognise the sustainable viticulture practices adopted. The visit culminates in the winery, where the winemaking processes are presented, followed by a tasting of six wines accompanied by bread, cheese, charcuterie, jams, olives and vegetable salad.
Winemaker Experience for a Day where participants have the opportunity to create their own blend of wine, understanding the nuances of blending. The experience includes the tasting of three wines from the estate and regional products.
Picnics in the vineyard allow you to immerse yourself in nature and the tranquil atmosphere of the estate.
The quinta also organises special events, such as harvest experiences, where visitors can take part in grape picking and traditional activities related to wine production.
Although Quinta da Folgorosa does not have its own accommodation services, it does offer motorhome parking, allowing visitors to stay on site and enjoy the surrounding landscape.

F) Quinta da Boa Esperança
The Quinta da Boa Esperança is located in Zibreira, in the municipality of Torres Vedras, approximately 50 minutes from Lisbon. This proximity to the capital and the sea were determining factors for the choice of this location by owners Eva Guedes and Artur Gama, who acquired the quinta in 2014 with the aim of developing a sustainable, quality wine project
The farm has 13.5 hectares of vineyards, aged between 5 and 35 years, where grape varieties such as Arinto, Fernão Pires, Sauvignon Blanc, Castelão, Touriga Nacional, Syrah and Alicante Bouschet are cultivated. Viticulture is practised in a sustainable way, benefiting from the maritime influence of the Atlantic and the Serra de Montejunto, resulting in fresh, saline and mineral wines.

As for wine tourism experiences, Quinta da Boa Esperança offers guided tours and wine tastings of the vineyards and winery, followed by wine tastings accompanied by regional products such as cheeses and sausages. The quinta organises lunches and dinners by appointment, using ingredients from the organic vegetable garden and the garden on the estate, providing an authentic gastronomic experience, as well as private events such as weddings, birthday parties and business meetings, offering a welcoming and personalised atmosphere.
The quinta currently has no accommodation of its own, but a project is underway to create a wine resort with around 10 rooms, with the aim of expanding the wine tourism offerings in the future.

G) Quinta da Casaboa
The Quinta da Casaboa is located in Runa, Torres Vedras, approximately 40 kilometres from Lisbon. With a history dating back to the 18th century, the estate covers 120 hectares and has been owned by the Ferreira dos Santos family for three generations. Since 1958, it has been dedicated to producing and bottling quality wines, using traditional methods and its own grapes from 50 hectares of vineyards, including castes such as Touriga Nacional, Alicante Bouschet, Tinta Roriz, Merlot, Alvarinho and Arinto.

In terms of wine tourism, Quinta da Casaboa offers guided tours and wine tastings, giving visitors the opportunity to learn about the production process and taste its wines. There is no information available on the existence of restaurants, wine bars or accommodation services on the estate. However, Quinta da Casaboa is one of the 14 producers that are part of the Torres Vedras Wine Tourism Route, an initiative that aims to promote wine tourism in the municipality and which was presented in October 2024.

H) Quinta da Almiara
The Quinta da Almiara is located in the parish of São Mamede da Ventosa, in the municipality of Torres Vedras, in the Lisbon Wine Region. It is approximately 50 kilometres from Lisbon, which is about 45 minutes by car from the Portuguese capital.
Founded in 1980, this family business is dedicated to the production of high-quality red and white wines. The estate extends over 180 hectares of its own vineyards, where selected grape varieties such as Touriga Nacional, Alicante Bouschet, Castelão, Aragonez, Caladoc, Syrah, Fernão Pires and Moscatel are grown. The winery has been completely remodelled and is equipped with state-of-the-art technology, with a storage capacity of 5 million litres in stainless steel vats.

In terms of wine tourism, Quinta da Almiara offers.
Guided Tours and Wine Tastings where visitors can walk from the old wine press to the modern winery, ending on the terrace with panoramic views over the landscape of the West region. These visits include wine tastings accompanied by regional products such as cheeses, bread with chorizo, codfish cakes and typical sweets.
Personalised experiences such as picnics in the vineyards, brunches with wine tasting and jeep rides through the vineyards, provide a unique connection with nature and the region’s winemaking tradition.
The facilities are prepared to host private events, with a space designed for the purpose with capacity for around 200 people.
The Quinta does not currently offer restaurant, wine bar or accommodation services. However, it is considering moving forward with wine tourism and residential tourism projects in the near future.
I) AdegaMãe
The AdegaMãe is located in Torres Vedras, approximately 40 kilometres from Lisbon, Portugal. The journey by car from the capital takes around 35 to 40 minutes, using the A8 motorway towards Torres Vedras.
Inaugurated in 2011, AdegaMãe is a project of the Alves family, founders of the Riberalves Group, traditionally linked to the cod market. The winery was born as a tribute to the family matriarch, Manuela Alves, symbolising a space for creating and celebrating the region’s wine culture. In 2015, AdegaMãe was honoured as Company of the Year in the wine sector in Portugal, by Wine Magazine.

AdegaMãe offers Guided Tours and Wine Tastings where visitors can explore the winery’s modern facilities and take part in wine tastings, learning about the production process and the characteristics of the house wines.
The Restaurant “Sal na Adega”opened in 2020, offers an interpretation of traditional Portuguese cuisine, harmonised with its wines. In 2024, it was honoured as the Best Restaurant in Portugal at the APENO awards.
It also offers spaces for private and corporate events in a modern and cosy setting, with panoramic views over the vineyards.

J) Adega São Mamede da Ventosa
Adega São Mamede da Ventosa is located in Arneiros, in the Parish de Ventosa, comin the municipality of Torres Vedras, approximately 50 km from Lisbon. Travelling by car from the Portuguese capital takes around 45 minutes via the A8 motorway in the direction of Torres Vedras.
Founded in 1956, Adega São Mamede da Ventosa is a winegrowing cooperative that stands out as one of the largest in the country. Initially comprising around 200 members, the cooperative has grown significantly over the decades and currently includes approximately 480 members, with a vineyard area extending over 2,000 hectares. Its average annual production reaches 20 million litres of wine, making it the highest-producing wine cooperative at the national level.

The Adega offers wine tourism experiences that allow visitors to discover the region’s winemaking heritage, including Guided Tours and Wine Tastings, where guests can explore the winery’s facilities and sample a range of wines, appreciating their distinctive flavours and aromas.
The winery also features a physical shop where visitors can purchase their wines, including gift options and the opportunity to taste wines of their choice.


K) Quinta de Sant’Ana
Quinta de Sant’Ana is located in Gradil, Mafra, approximately 40 km from Lisbon. The drive takes around 45 minutes via the A8 motorway. Nestled among the hills and valleys of the Lisbon wine region, the estate offers breathtaking landscapes combined with a deep-rooted winemaking tradition.
Quinta de Sant’Ana boasts a long history dating back to the 17th century. Originally used as a summer residence for the nobility, the estate was restored and transformed into a boutique winery by the German Barrow family, who have skilfully blended Portuguese tradition with a modern approach to wine production.

The Quinta is a premium wine tourism destination, offering a variety of unique experiences such as guided tours and wine tastings, where visitors can explore the vineyards and cellars, learn about the winemaking process, and sample the estate’s wines. Tastings are often paired with regional delicacies.
Private events and weddings – the estate is renowned as one of the finest venues for weddings and exclusive events, featuring charming spaces including rustic courtyards, historic halls, and lush gardens.
Rural accommodation – guests can stay in beautifully restored country cottages, providing an immersive experience in the heart of the vineyard landscape.
Although it does not have a traditional restaurant, the estate hosts wine dinners, gourmet picnics, and gastronomic events with guest chefs.
Outdoor activities such as vineyard walks, property hikes, and seasonal experiences like grape harvesting and pruning are also part of the enotourism offering.
