The history of Casa Santos Lima is a testament to passion and dedication to viticulture. Founded in the late 19th century by Joaquim Santos Lima, the original property, Quinta da Boavista, quickly established itself as a benchmark in wine production in the Lisbon region. Over the decades, the winery has undergone various transformations, but always maintaining an unwavering commitment to quality and innovation.

Currently, under the leadership of the fourth generation of the family, Casa Santos Lima has consolidated its position as one of Portugal’s largest wine producers, exporting to over 50 countries worldwide. The winery’s philosophy is clear: combine ancestral viticultural knowledge with the most modern technologies and sustainable practices. This is reflected not only in the quality of their wines but also in how they interact with the environment and the local community.

Casa Santos Lima owns vineyards spread across 7 regions of Portugal, including Lisbon, Douro, Algarve, Vinho Verde, Alentejo, Dão, and the Azores. Each with unique terroir characteristics that contribute to the diversity and complexity of their wines. The selection of grape varieties, both indigenous Portuguese (such as Touriga Nacional, Arinto, and Fernão Pires) and international (such as Syrah and Cabernet Sauvignon), is made with precision to extract the maximum potential from each variety and express the identity of each terroir. In total, Casa Santos Lima currently boasts 35 distinct grape varieties, including Malbec and Merlot, varieties rarely produced in Portugal.

More than just producing wine, Casa Santos Lima believes in creating an experience. They understand that wine is a cultural link, an expression of the land and human labour. This vision is the driving force behind their wine tourism initiatives, which seek to connect visitors with the soul of the company, allowing them to experience the magic of wine production first-hand.
